DANCER, Pablo Gargallo

PABLO GARGALLO (Maella, 1881 – Reus, 1934)

When Gargallo settled permanently in Paris in 1924, he began one of the most interesting periods of his artistic career because of his experimentation with his own language, which would culminate in works such as La gran bailarina, of which there are three versions. Gargallo used cardboard cut-outs from which he could cut the metal pieces, in this case iron, and then assemble them. The sculpture combines realistic aesthetics with cubist solutions and incorporates empty space as an element of volume.
